In 1938, he was cast beside Errol Flynn in The Dawn Patrol. This role established Niven as a suave and charismatic leading man. Niven's career took off when he was cast as Phineas Fogg, the lead role in Around the World in Eighty Days, which won the Oscar for best picture. Later that year, Niven starred in Separate Tables as an army major accused of sexual harassment - a role for which he won the Oscar for best actor.
